Reaching Rome in the evening, we transfer to our hotel, have a sumptuous dinner, and rest for the night, getting ready for an unforgettable journey through Italy's rich history, culture, and breathtaking landscapes.
Rome - Bari
After breakfast, we'll check out from the hotel and embark on a city tour of Rome, the cradle of ancient civilization. Our day begins at the Trevi Fountain, the city's largest Baroque fountain, designed by the renowned Nicola Salvi, where we'll follow the tradition of throwing a coin and making a wish. Next, we delve into the grandeur of the Colosseum, exploring the vast amphitheatre that was once the stage for gladiatorial contests. Our tour continues with a drive past significant Roman landmarks, including the Temples of Saturn and Concorde and the Arch of Augustus. Later, we'll transfer to Rome Termini station for our train journey to Bari, a vibrant port city on the Adriatic Sea and the economic powerhouse of the Puglia region, known for its exquisite cuisine, historical architecture, and warm hospitality. Upon arrival at Bari Centrale Station, we'll enjoy dinner at a local restaurant before heading to our hotel for an overnight stay.
Polignano & Monopoli
Following breakfast, we'll embark on a serene tour of Polignano and Monopoli. Our first stop, Polignano a Mare, a jewel in Apulia, Italy, is famed for attractions like Chiesa di Sant'Antonio, the Statua di Domenico Modugno, and its captivating historic center. Just a short drive from Bari, Polignano offers enchanting experiences such as visiting the Domenico Modugno Statue, exploring ancient bridges and gates, and marvelling at the breathtaking coastal views. Next, we head to Monopoli, set along the Adriatic Sea. This town is celebrated for its Baroque Monopoli Cathedral with its impressive bell tower and an archaeological crypt museum. Highlights include the 16thcentury Castle of Carlo V and the ornate Palmieri Palace. We'll return to Bari in the evening for dinner and an overnight stay.
Bari - Matera - Bari
After breakfast, we'll check out and set off for Matera, taking a scenic detour through Alberobello. Matera, recognized as the third oldest continuously inhabited city globally, after Aleppo and Jericho, boasts over 10,000 years of human history. Nestled in the Basilicata region of southern Italy, Matera is renowned for its Sassi district, an extensive area of ancient cave dwellings etched into the limestone cliffs. Once evacuated in 1952 due to inhumane living conditions, the Sassi has been transformed into a vibrant cultural hub featuring museums like the Casa Grotta di Vico Solitario, which offers a glimpse into past life with its period furnishings and artisanal tools. Matera is also celebrated for its rock-hewn churches, such as St. Lucia alle Malve, adorned with 13th-century frescoes. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Matera captivates visitors worldwide with its stone-carved homes and spiritual heritage, standing as a testament to human resilience and creativity.
Bari - Salerno - Amalfi Coast - Sorrento
Post breakfast check out and drive down to Salernoo, a picturesque port city near Naples. We'll visit the historic Arechi Castle for its panoramic sea views and medieval artifacts, and explore Salerno Cathedral, known for its Byzantine doors and baroque crypt, built on ancient Roman foundations. The visit includes Minerva’s Garden, famed for its medicinal herbs since the 14th century. Next, we journey to Ravello, the City of Music, perched on Italy’s stunning coastline. Ravello offers a blend of history, art, and breathtaking views, with its medieval streets and garden villas full of stories. Our drive takes us along the Amalfi Coast to Sorrento, where leisure, an overnight stay, and a delightful dinner await.
Capri & Positano
Enjoy a leisurely morning and breakfast before heading to Sorrento port, where we'll board a ferry to the enchanting island of Capri, nestled in the Tyrrhenian Sea off the Sorrentine Peninsula. Capri is famed for its Blue Grotto, a magical sea cave where sunlight transforms the water into glowing azure hues. Our visit includes a mesmerizing Blue Grotto Boat Tour guided by an expert skipper through the cavern's tiny entrance to a world bathed in blue light and echoing with traditional songs. Next, we'll embark on an orientation tour of Capri, taking in highlights like the chairlift to Monte Solaro, Piazza Umberto, the Faraglioni rocks, Marina Piccola, and the panoramic views from Ana Capri. Later, we'll catch a ferry to Positano, a picturesque cliffside village renowned for its pebbled beaches, steep streets, boutique shops, and the iconic Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta. Explore Positano's culinary delights, from the scent of Amalfi lemons to unique Southern Italian dishes that redefine traditional Italian cuisine. We'll return to Sorrento in the evening, concluding our day with dinner and an overnight stay, rich with the sights, sounds, and tastes of Italy's stunning coastal regions.
Pompei - Torre Del Greco - Naples
After breakfast, we'll depart Sorrento for Pompeii, an ancient Roman city near Naples, engulfed by Mount Vesuvius's eruption in 79 AD and unearthed in 1748 by De Alcubierre. Once a bustling city marred by decadence, Pompeii's dramatic end is thought by some to be divine retribution. Before its fall, it transitioned from a Greek community to a Roman resort, beloved by Rome's affluent for its scenic Campania coastline. We'll continue 15 km to Torre Del Greco, a maritime town known for its bathing resorts, fishing community, and exquisite coral and cameo craftsmanship, home to a renowned school of coral carving and a coral museum. Our journey concludes in Naples, or Neapolis ('new city' in Greek), the birthplace of pizza. Naples is celebrated for its vibrant history, stunning architecture, and culinary excellence. Dinner and an overnight stay in Naples will round off our day.
Naples - Vesuvius - Herculaneum
Following breakfast, we drive to Mt. Vesuvius, the legendary volcano that overlooks Pompeii and the Bay of Naples, providing breathtaking views. On our way back, we will explore Herculaneum, preserved under Vesuvius's ash since 79 AD, offering a glimpse into ancient life. We then journey back to Naples, one of the world's oldest cities, celebrated for its UNESCO-recognized historic centre. Our tour explores Naples' treasures, including Spaccanapoli, Cappella San Severo, Piazza del Gesu, and the majestic Cathedral of St. Gennaro. The day ends back with dinner, followed by an overnight stay, enveloped in the city's historical and natural splendour.
Naples - Rome
After a hearty breakfast, we checked out and drove towards Rome. Upon landing in Rome, we'll head straight to Vatican City. The highlight of our journey is a visit to the enchanting Vatican City, the world's smallest sovereign state, anchored by the majestic St. Peter's Basilica. According to Catholic tradition, this basilica marks the resting place of Saint Peter, the foremost apostle of Jesus and the first Bishop of Rome, making it the epicentre of Christianity and the most significant church globally. After immersing ourselves in the splendour of Vatican City, we head back to the airport to catch our return flight.
